2023 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge: Day 31
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
Zero Draft Thirty: Day 31.
Write an entire draft of a script in March — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.
Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.
Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…
DO THAT!
As for me, I will spend the month rewriting a feature film spec script.
If you join the Challenge, I will be right there with you writing each and every day in March! Let’s do this together!

Today’s Writing Quote
“Writing is a journey through complexity to simplicity. What is the simple emotional journey that grounds everything?”
— Justin Rhodes
Today’s Inspirational Video
We end where we began, but this time the Songify version:
Everybody, I know you can believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself, you will know how to ride a bike. If you don’t, you just keep practicing. You will get the hang of it, I know it. If you keep practicing, you will get the hang of it, and then you can get better and better at it. Thumbs up everybody, rock and roll.
Today’s Stax Music Video
I have dedicated the 2023 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge as Stax Music Month. Part of that decision is to honor one of the greatest record companies of all time (check out their history here). But mostly, it’s an excuse to feature awesome R&B and soul music to get you out of your chair, dance around the room for 5 minutes, churn up your creative juices, then sit right back down and write your ass off.
Today’s featured song: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by Otis Redding.
That’s right. Otis Redding performing the Rolling Stones hit song. Live. What a performer.
Today’s Dalton Trumbo Award winner: Scamper the Hamster!
This is a first in the vaunted history of the Zero Draft Thirty Challenge: An award given to a non-human. And what a non-human it is. Our spirit animal: Scamper the Hamster!

No one really knows why Scamper the Hamster is the Zero Draft Thirty community’s spirit animal. That origin story is lost to the mists of time. But we do what Scamper has inspired.
Zeronauts don’t do writing sprints…
We do writing scampers.
We believe when pounding out a zero draft, we should have fun in the process. So we scamper when we pound out pages.
Plus, we have a monthly celebration: The Twenty-Four Hour Writing Scamper-A-Thon. In fact, at midnight tonight (Eastern Daylight Time / U.S.), we will begin the April version of the Scamper-A-Thon.
And YOU are cordially invited to join us over at the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group.
So today’s recipient of the Dalton Trumbo Award is Scamper the Hamster!

For your chance to win the Dalton Trumbo Award, one given away each day during the Challenge, post something inspiring, here on the blog, via Twitter, or the Facebook group.
Congratulation, Scamper!
