Every year, there is some controversy over the fact that some Oscar-nominated screenplays are not included in the WGA nominations? For example, this year these scripts up for Academy Awards are absent from the WGA nominess:

Best Original Screenplay: The Banshees of Inisherin and Triangle of Sadness

Best Adapted Screenplay: All Quiet on the Western Front and Living

Why? Because in order to be considered for WGA awards, the project had to have been written under the guild’s Minimum Basic Agreement or under a bona fide collective-bargaining agreement of various international WGA-affiliated organizations.

On the upside, the WGA often spotlights screenplays which should have received Oscar nominations. This year is no different with Nope and The Menu topping my list.
