Today’s Writing Quote

“I don’t believe in rules for writing screenplays. What that gives you is formula, and the result will be formulaic.”
— Christopher Hampton

Today’s Inspirational Video

Some instant art on the sidewalks of NYC.

I can’t draw worth a lick let alone paint, so I’m always amazed by visual artists. Fortunately, I can write!

Today’s Anita Loos Award winner: Mahendra Waghela.

Yesterday over at the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group page, we held a Twenty Four Hour Writing Scamper-A-Thon. It’s a way of encouraging writers to push their stories forward on the weekend, even if only for one hour. Sustain the momentum. Yes, spend time with the family. Yes, relax. But also continue to prime the creative pump.

We do writing scampers, not writing sprints because (A) sprints are hard and (B) scampers are fun. Our mascot is Scamper the hamster. He takes many shapes, but is a fixture among the Zero Draft Thirty crowd.

During the Scamper-A-Thon, Mahendra posted this photo:

Good reminder. One word after another. That’s writing. A zero draft writer isn’t frightened by the prospect of having to write 100 or so script pages. Why? Because we focus on what’s in front of us. This scene. This page. This side of dialogue. This word. And the next word. And the next word…

For that inspiration, the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award is Mahendra Waghela!

Congratulations, Mahendra!
