2022 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge: Day 4
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
Zero Draft Thirty: Day 4.
Write an entire draft of a script in March — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.
Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.
Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…
DO THAT!
As for me, I will spend the month co-writing a feature film spec script. It’s based on a story concept I came up with late last year and it may be the strongest comedy idea I’ve ever worked on. My writing partner and I have spent the first two months of the year on character development and breaking story. Now it’s time to jam out a first draft!
If you join the Challenge, I will be right there with you writing each and every day in March! Let’s do this together!

Today’s Writing Quote
“Convince yourself that you are working in clay, not marble, on paper, not eternal bronze.”
— Jacques Barzun
Today’s Inspirational Video
The incomparable guitarist Django Reinhardt was the first jazz talent to emerge from Europe. What’s even more remarkable is that after suffering first and second degree burns across much of his body, leaving two fingers on his left hand paralyzed, Reinhardt overcame his injuries to develop his unique musical style. Watch the video above. Track how his left hand flies up the fingerboard and how fast his right hand moves. Astonishing skill.
What can we, as writers, created with OUR fingers? For inspiration, check out this anthology of music recorded by Reinhardt.
Today’s Loos Award winner: Joshua Paolino.
At the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group page, Joshua posted this:
Because I was working 12 hour days on Monday and Wednesday, I had to wait until today to start. But I wrote the opening teaser of my pilot today. Pleased with its nascent state…tomorrow I’ll plug away some more.
Plug away some more. That’s it. Right there. Here is the definition of “plug away”: to continue doing something even though it is difficult or boring.
The thing is if you continue to plug away, you keep adding pages to your page count. And that dreaded feeling about being at the beginning of Act Two … or in the middle … keep plugging away and those anxious moments fade from view in your rear view mirror.
For that reminder, today’s Ben Hecht Award recipient is Joshua Paolino!

For your chance to win the Ben Hecht Award, one given away each day during the Challenge, post something inspiring, here on the blog, via Twitter, or the Facebook group.
