Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…

DO THAT!

September 1: You type FADE IN / “Once upon a time…”

Today’s Writing Quote

“Each writer starts differently, but the only valid way is start with character. Character IS plot. Character IS story.”

— Eleanor Perry

Today’s Inspirational Video

What a voice! If you haven’t checked the documentary The Sound of My Voice, it is excellent!

Linda Ronstadt not only inspired me as a young man, I flat-out fell in love with her! I saw her perform live in Charlottesville, Virginia. I’d been a fan before, but that was that. Tragically, a medical condition has meant she can no longer sing. Such a loss. Watch the video. It’s quite a story.

Each day this month, I’ll post a Zero Draft Thirty Challenge post here at Go Into The Story. And as I’ve done with every past Challenge, I will hand out an award for a notable Tweet, Facebook post, or comment here on the blog. This cycle, the winner will receive the Anita Loos Award!

Today’s Anita Loos Award winner: Margarita Andreeva.

At the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group, Margarita posted this:

I used to feel like a failure for not knowing everything from the very start. It’s different this time around. I made my peace with the notion that the day I decide to write it down I probably know less than 1% of the story, and that’s fine. Putting the story together is a journey into the unknown. Simple, right. Tho, took me years to recognize this fact as the essence and the reason for writing, not something to be wary of.

So much of what stymies writers is fear of the unknown. And yes, it is possible to flame out, crash, and burn. But logically speaking…

ON THE OTHER HAND

You could write something which kicks ass. You cannot deny that possibility. For that inspiration, the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award is Margarita Andreeva!

Go into the unknown. You could find the path you need to find.`
