Today’s Writing Quote
“At the top of my computer in big, bold letters, it says, ‘What is the simple emotional journey?’ I look at that all the time.”
— Billy Ray
Today’s Inspirational Video
Hey, if two hobbits can save Middle Earth, we can damn well get to FADE OUT!
Today’s Loos Award winner: Roy Koshy.
A few days ago, Roy posted this over at the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group:
How is everyone’s script coming? I admit I’m a little behind on the schedule that I created, but trying to do something every day.
Two lines… but it sums up the essence of the Zero Draft Thirty community:
— How is everyone’s script coming? That’s the spirit of good writers. We don’t see this as a zero-sum game, where somebody loses if somebody wins, rather good writers are of the “rising tides lift all boats” mentality. Why? Because good writers know that creativity has no bounds, there is no limit to what any and all of us can do. So, we reach out to our fellow writers. We acknowledge their efforts and in doing so, we support them.
— I admit I’m a little behind on the schedule. That’s just being honest. And part of being in a writing community is to be able to confess the downs along with shouting the successes. We’ve all been there, we know what it’s like to see us lagging behind this wonderful schedule we laid out some weeks ago. That gnaws at us, but…
— …but trying to do something every day. There it is. The zero draft spirit in seven little words. Write every day. Do something. Even one scene moves you toward Fade Out. Hell, even one sentence if the muse is particularly silent on this day.
The Zero Draft Thirty Challenge is not about guilt or shame or should. It’s about creativity and scampers and fun. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being done.
Therefore on this the final (official) day of the 2021 Zero Draft Thirty March Challenge, I hereby declare that the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award is Roy Koshy!

That’s it. No more Anita Loos Award winners…
Eh, what’s that? I’m getting a message via our Scamper-Wire. Wait what? Scamper the Hamster has declared there is one more day for the challenge? An extra day? 31, not 30 days?
OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!
People, you’ve got an entire additional day to write during the March Challenge. Thank you, Scamper, you lil’ rascal!
And maybe one more Anita Loos Award recipient.

Final Thoughts: A great question to ask yourself about your script: What do you want the audience to *feel* when your movie fades to black at the end? Your screenplay needs to service that emotional response throughout the narrative.
