Today’s Writing Quote

“A bad script written is still better than an amazing one that isn’t.”

Kid President laying down a pep talk for us!

Today’s Loos Award winner: Cindi Woods.

Over at the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group, during our recent 24 Hour Writing Scamper-A-Thon, Cindi was one of our hour-long hosts. She posted this during her writing scamper

Hello from beautiful, sunny, begging for me to get outside, north Louisiana!
I confess, no excuse is too small for me to procrastinate writing. And after a year of quarantine and my COVID vaccination card burning a hole in my pocket…I’m ready to escape!
But here’s the other truth. Most of the time my restlessness is the result of stories begging to be written but my fear and laziness keeping me from following through. Facing lockdown last March, I knew something had to change.
So this past year, I doubled down on engaging with the writing community on social media. I didn’t realize what a difference it’s made until I looked back on it as a whole.
As a result of this group and other accountability groups on Twitter… I’ve completed rewrites on two features, wrote an animated feature, wrote a comedy pilot, and I’m now working on a comedy feature for March’s #ZD30SCRIPT. But the best part by far is the new friends I’ve made… writers going into the daily creative battle together… laughing, crying, bitching, and celebrating.
Don’t get me wrong… I’m still a slug! I’ve almost stopped writing this post four times. But if you’re reading this, we’re both still here, and I’m thankful for each and every one of you. Don’t underestimate the power of community.
Whatever you’re working on, keep moving forward. I’ll be here with a virtual hug…or kick in the pants!

That’s the thing about being part of a writing community: Accountability. They can hold you accountable. You can hold them accountable. It’s not only a great way to attack procrastination, it’s also a great way to develop and deepen friendships, and help you grow as a writer.

For that wonderful piece of inspiration, the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award is Cindi Woods!

Congratulations, Cindi!

Final Thoughts: Think character. Think plot. Think theme. But when you sit down to write a scene… feel.
