Today’s Writing Quote
“If I could say anything, it’s keep going. Don’t go back and fix that scene, that dialogue. Just write the next word.”
— Ann Hamilton Phelan
Today’s Inspirational Video
“Steal Away” is an old African-American slave song and is thought to have been used as a code related to escape attempts. Sung here in a recording from 1957 by the great Mahalia Jackson, then joined by Nat King Cole. What an amazing voice she had!
Today’s Loos Award winner: Lesath Ramos.
Posted here at Go Into The Story:
Just typed FADE OUT on my first feature film script, 1AM here in Brazil.
I can’t express how much of a learning this month was, as I am now considering pursuing a career in screenwriting. For now, I just enjoy my writing and wonder about future projects (soon to be put on paper!) . Most of all, I thank the blog, the challenge (which I found out on Feb 29) and the inspiration! Until the next time, I’ll be doing some research work and revising this script.
Here is my response:
Wonderful to hear, Lesath! Congratulations! Typing FADE OUT is a worthy reward for all your hard work. As you rewrite this project (give yourself a couple of weeks off before digging back into it), be sure to be generating more story concepts. We’ll be doing another Zero Draft Thirty Challenge in September. The idea of two per year is writers should be knocking out two spec script annually.
But for now, enjoy your accomplishment!
Since I ran the first Zero Draft Thirty Challenge in November 2015, there have been nine other Challenges. Thousands of writers have participated in one or more Challenges, many of them getting from Fade In to Fade Out. That’s the whole point: Be. Productive.
Therefore, to honor yet another writer who has used the Challenge to knock out a script, today’s Anita Loos Award goes to Lesath Ramos!
