Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.

Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…

Today’s Writing Quote

“Don’t write about a character. Become that character, and then write your story.”

— Ethan Canin

Today’s Inspirational Video

If you’re not familiar with the musical group OK Go, they are known for doing elaborate videos. Like really elaborate. Check out this Rube Goldberg inspired take for their song “This Too Shall Pass”.

Today’s Loos Award winner: Donna Kienbaum.

In the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group page, Donna posted this yesterday:

I had to start late due to commitments but I’m writing and inspired and even if my ZD30 won’t conclude until mid-April I’m on it and loving the momentum and peer encouragement here.

I added a wee bit of visual motivation above my storyboard in my office this morning, just to kick me up the arse each day if I’m feeling a slump. It may seem a little silly but I find it rather helpful.

I like Donna’s photo, not only seeing those index cards on the wall, but also how she fuzzed out the image, presumably to protect the nature of her story. I look at that as a metaphor for the story-crafting process, how it’s fuzzy at the beginning, but the deeper we get into the page-writing part of the process, the nature of the narrative becomes clearer and clearer.

Because of that, the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award is Donna Kienbaum!

Just like Donna, it doesn’t matter when you start as long as you finish the draft, so if you’re just learning about the Zero Draft Thirty Challenge, why not type FADE IN today and give yourself 30 days to knock out a draft.
