Today’s Writing Quote

“Reprogram your brain so THE END isn’t a giant finish line. You got pages done today. You’ll do more tomorrow.”

You know what’s great about this Coronavirus thing?**
NONE OF YOU HAVE ANY EXCUSE TO SKIP THIS MONTH’S ZD30 CHALLENGE AND TODAY’S SCAMPER-A-THON!
Don’t bother giving me any of your lame reasons like “but I have to attend this event” (liar! everything has been cancelled!) or “but I have to go to work” (pffff! you’d only endanger your colleagues — don’t be rude!) or “but I have to take care of the kids!” (ewww, do you have any idea how many germs they’re spreading? lock them in their rooms and quarantine them until April!)!
So, get cozy in your bunker for the next hour(s), grab some snacks from your stockpile, and get this script written! Because one thing’s for sure: Many more people will do the Netflix & Chill routine these days, and they need new stories to watch, so why not yours?!
(**All kidding aside, nothing is great about this Coronavirus thing obviously, and I hope you’ll all stay happy & healthy!)

True, nothing good about the COVID-19 thing, however, I echoed the same point myself the other day:

Some thoughts about the COVID-19 scare. First and foremost, trust the science on this. All the precautions including cancellations of events and activities which involve large gatherings of people, travel restrictions, school closings and the like, this is all about ‘flattening the curve,’ i.e., minimizing exposure. Yes, an annoyance to some, a pain in the arse to others, but the simple fact is by containing our interactions with large groups, that is perhaps the single best way to restrict the growth pattern of viral infection.
It’s a scary time. It reminds us of the importance of good governance — hopefully people will keep this in mind in future elections. It also reminds us of the connectivity of all human beings. A virus does not discriminate between the lo and the mighty. Perhaps we will come away from this experience with a greater sense of our shared humanity and a deeper level of empathy for our fellow travelers on this Earth.
On a practical level for members of the Zero Draft Thirty group, particularly those of you participating in this moth’s writing challenge, if circumstances dictate we stay home more and isolate ourselves, well, what better way to spend our time than with our stories? Balance out stress and worry with something positive and creative: spend time with our characters and *their* lives, then pound out pages sharing *their* story.
Besides that, I wish to offer each of you my personal best wishes and hope that you stay well. Wash your hands. Reach out to family and friends to let them know you care about and love them. Be kind to yourself and extend that kindness to others.
Godspeed.

While acknowledging the seriousness of our current health crisis, the fact is if the best thing we can do is stay inside, why not write?
