Today’s Writing Quote
“I don’t believe in rules for writing screenplays. What that gives you is formula, and the result will be formulaic.”
— Christopher Hampton
Today’s Inspirational Video
Some instant art on the sidewalks of NYC.
I can’t draw worth a lick let alone paint, so I’m always amazed by visual artists. Fortunately, I can write!

Writing from O’Hare airport this morning as I wait for my flight. #writewhereyouare
I’ve written in my office, in coffee shops, in airports, on airplanes, on trains, in the back seat of Lyft rides, in a hospital bed, in my back yard, by a swimming pool, in my bedroom, in the kitchen, at a restaurant, at a bar, on my back, standing up, sitting down, before dawn, after midnight, all hours of the day.
One thing I learned when I was a stay-at-home dad for a year with my then one year-old son: It’s amazing how much you can get done in 20 minutes. He’d watch a video? I’d zip away to write. He takes a nap? Write.
So yes, write where you are, but also write when you can.
For that inspiration, the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award: Kristin Gacon!
