2019 Zero Draft Thirty September Challenge: Day 16
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
One month. FADE IN to FADE OUT. Creativity meets Productivity.
Zero Draft Thirty: Day 16.
Write an entire draft of a script in September — FADE IN. FADE OUT. Or any sort of creative goal you have in front of you.
Feature length movie screenplay. Original TV pilot. Rewrite a current project. Break a story in prep. Generate a month’s worth of story concepts.
Whatever you feel will ratchet your creative ambitions into overdrive…
DO THAT!
September 1: You type FADE IN / “Once upon a time…”
September 30: You type FADE OUT / “…They all lived happily ever after.”
It’s free! It’s fun! It’s Fade In to Fade Out!

Today’s Writing Quote
“What does this character want and more importantly why do they want it? Those are what I look at as I’m writing dialogue.”

Each day this month, I’ll post a Zero Draft Thirty Challenge post here at Go Into The Story. And as I’ve done with every past Challenge, I will hand out an award for a notable Tweet, Facebook post, or comment here on the blog. This cycle, the winner will receive the inaugural Ben Hecht Award!
Today’s Ben Hecht Award winner: Kristin Gacon. For this post over in the Zero Draft Thirty Facebook group.
I’ve been focusing on a rewrite this go round and I will not lie it’s been a monumentally slow start. I knew this first week and a half would be hard as I looked for a new day job, but I can happily say today I am on my way to new opportunities in more way than one! And I know no matter how slow the start to this month at least I’ve started and can now finish strong. Game face on, baby! 👍👩💻🐌🐢

Today being the 16th, we are literally now into the 2nd half of this month’s Challenge. What if you were beginning your writing project today? That would fall into the category of “starting slow.”
But you know what? It doesn’t matter! Maybe by the end of September, you pound out half of your script. Perhaps you hit a hot streak and finish the whole damn thing. Or you may end up with 10, 15, or 20 pages.
What matters is you have made progress. You have moved the ball upfield.
[Insert sport metaphor here.]
Start slow… start fast… it doesn’t matter. What matters is how you END!
Get to FADE OUT. This month or next. Whenever.
It is far better to work with a zero draft than no draft.
For that bit of wisdom, today’s recipient of the Ben Hecht Award is Kristin Gacon.

Congratulations, Kristin!
It’s Day 16 of the Challenge. Let’s call it Sweet Sixteen.
Pound out at least one page today. Okay, maybe two. Shit, go for three!
Just keep pushing forward. FADE IN is in sight.
Onward!
