Today’s Writing Quote
“In any story there are three elements: persons, a situation, and the fact that in the end something has changed. If nothing has changed, it isn’t a story.”
— Malcolm Cowley
Today’s Inspirational Video
Today’s Loos Award winner: Alexandra Keister.
I saw “The Room” for the first time last month and just finished listening to “The Disaster Artist.”
I think Tommy Wiseau is my personal Zero Draft Thirty spirit guide (maybe co-guides with Shia).
When people roll their eyes at you when you share what you’re making — keep writing.
When what comes out of your head isn’t as pretty as you’d imagined it — keep writing.
When your characters won’t speak to you and your plot has more holes than Charlie Brown’s Halloween costume — keep writing.
When your hygiene has gone out the window and all you’ve eaten in the last 48 hours is popcorn and Skittles and your shirt, couch and you are now one — oh, uhm. Maybe shower and eat a salad. And then keep writing!
Happy March, all!!!! And happier writing!
You can say a LOT of things about Tommy Wiseau, but first and foremost, you’ve got to admit this: The dude made his fucking movie! And Room may play like it was based on a zero draft, but the movie has gone on to become a phenomenon. He. Put. It. Out. There.
Now it’s your turn. Put. It. Out. There.
For that bit of inspiration, the recipient of today’s Anita Loos Award is Alexandra Keister!
