2018 London Screenwriters’ Festival
I’m pleased to announce I’ll be returning to the LSF in September.
I’m pleased to announce I’ll be returning to the LSF in September.
From the good folks at the London Screenwriters’ Festival:
We are delighted to announced that Scott Myers, whose LondonSWF’17 sessions were standing room only, will return for the festival in 2018.
We are VERY excited as Scott really knows his stuff, as anyone who attended his session can attest. He will be running four sessions at LondonSWF’18 as well as some extra stuff for us too.
Remember Scott is just one of over 100 speakers and his sessions are just four of the hundred or so we will run over the three days.
Apparently, I was the highest rated speaker at the 2017 Festival. Here are some comments from some writers who attended my presentations:
‘Without a doubt, everything Scott Myers did was as if you could hear the penny dropping in every delegate’s brain throughout his well-reasoned and enabling lectures (plus he does a wicked Anthony ‘Hannibal’ Hopkins voice).’
Stephanie Wessell, Screenwriter
‘Scott’s knowledge, insight, depth, passion, humour and laser sharp delivery was unmatched. Each lecture he gave was rammed to the hilt with ammunition and he gave us FOUR MASTERCLASSES. Good God that was worth the price alone.’
Richard Paul Wheildon, Screenwriter
‘Scott taught me more about writing description than my entire MA did.’
Liz Holliday, Screenwriter
‘The sheer breadth of Scott Myers’ knowledge is amazing, and he knows how to share it in an accessible and reassuring way.’
Carmen Radtke, Screenwriter
‘Scott is fantastic. I was bombarded all afternoon with people saying he was the best speaker they’d ever seen at LSF. I know he’s been invited back. Please make this happen, please!’
Alexis Howell-Jones, Screenwriter
Over 250 people requested my PowerPoint slides from the 4 presentations I gave last year. In fact, I’m still receiving emails about the event and that was 5 months ago!
Yes, I had a fantastic time at the 2017 London Screenwriters’ Festival and this year looks to be even better. Why?
I’m not only going to do my presentations over the three day weekend, I’m also slotted to do a master class on Thursday:
Exploring Your Protagonist’s Psychological Journey
Why is the Protagonist the most critical character in your story-crafting process? How can you use their experience in the story, their deep psychology and their past to ramp up the stakes and move your script from ‘pretty good’ to un-put-downable?
The key to unlocking your story’s most powerful version and the underlying structure rests within its most central character: The Protagonist.
Every event that happens, every character who emerges is tied to the Protagonist and their unique psychological journey.
Learn how you can delve into your Protagonist to craft your story’s structure in this masterclass with Scott Myers, screenwriter (K-9, Alaska, Trojan War), professor (DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts), and host of GoIntoTheStory.com, the official screenwriting blog of the Black List.
When: Thu 6th Sept 2018
Time: 12pm — 6.30pm
Where: Regent’s University, Regent’s Park, NW1 4NS

If you’re a Euro-based writer — or even in the States — consider signing up for this year’s Festival. Great insights from the various presenters and panelists, terrific networking opportunity, and an inspirational weekend.

NOTE: I’ve also been invited back to the Willamette Writers Conference in Portland, Oregon in August and the Austin Film Festival in October, so if you can’t make it to London, these are two stateside events to check out.
If you or someone you know is festival or writing conference director and you think there might be some interest in having me as a guest speaker and/or mentor, feel free to contact me: GITsblog at gmail dot com.
